Rian Alfiero has worked front-of-house in some of the most well-regarded restaurants in New York and Los Angeles, and in none of them has he enjoyed fish as fresh as the stuff his father, Nick, brings home every day from Harbor Fish Market. Rian studied Italian and music at Middlebury College, VT, including time abroad in Florence, where he studied cooking, art, and literature. He currently lives in Manhattan with his lovely wife Whitney and their pug, Mr. Business.
Nick Alfiero has been the owner of Portland’s oldest fish market, Harbor Fish Market, along with his brothers Ben, Jr., and Mike, for nearly 40 years. In that time, the market has grown from a hole-in-thewharf pair of showcases to a full-fledged wholesale, processing, and retail operation, all while retaining its historic location on Custom House Wharf. Nick has taught innumerable seafood cooking classes, and loves to share ideas for new dishes with customers and friends. He lives in Scarborough with his amazing wife, Kathleen, and when he’s not at the market you can find him on the golf course, the beach, or traveling with his family.
Kathleen Alfiero is the founder of Appreciation Unlimited, a media company dedicated to sharing positive stories of those in and around education. She spent 25 years in schools as a teacher and substance abuse counselor, and passes on the wisdom gained from those experiences in award-winning television, books, live events, and community outreach efforts across Maine and the nation. Having grown up in a large Irish family, being a part of the Harbor Fish family has given her a unique perspective on the passion for fresh seafood and great cooking.
Douglas Merri am is passionate about everything related to food, from growing it in his yard to cooking and eating it, and of course photographing it. His photography has appeared in everything from Cooking Light to Down East, and has photographed the food and restaurants of celebrity chefs.
