Longfellow’s epic poem of love lost follows the heartbreaking story of Evangeline and Gabriel as they are separated from one another after the British expulsion of French settlers from Nova Scotia in 1755. Evangeline, who ends up in southern Louisiana, searches valiantly for her love, but Gabriel unknowingly remains one step ahead of her.
